    LIAPADES VILLAGE

Since the pre Byzantine era, a community has existed around the site of Liapades Village . The period is approximately between the years 306 AD and 395 AD. The original settlers of the Village is believed that have moved from Alipa which is part of what is now Paleokastritsa.

The Alipans relied primarily on fishing & farming to maintain their lifestyle much the same as the present people.

During that period the Mediterranean Sea was blasted by Pirates who raped and pillaged all the villages near or close to the coast. Most of the Alipans therefore decided to move further in land.

A number of families formed a community called Alipades. This name later changed to Liapades. The reason for the change is unclear since now but was probably changed to save confusion with the original village of Alipa.

To preserve their great knowledge of fishing the Alipans developed a new fishing base at Limni beach which is now as one of the favourites beaches of Liapades & can be reached either by boat or on foot.

Limni Beach (photo) connects Corfu mainland with a small island about 100 metres offshore & is unique as the beach is open to the sea on both sides.

The villagers from Liapades supplemented their fishing by growing Grapes for wine making (as wine is an accompaniment to a good meal), cultivating olives, growing of vegetables & hunting for everyday use.
